    English

    • English  courses are offered at two levels – higher level, and lower level to cater to the needs of students who have studied in non-english medium until 10th Standard.
    • Remedial  course in English for students who are weak in English
    • Range of activities catering to  the four essential skills – Reading, Writing, Speaking  and Listening
    • Excellent collection of fiction (especially Indian writing in English) to promote reading skills in English
    • Visits arranged to libraries, museums,  art exhibitions etc.

  • EXTENSION ACTIVITIES

    10 F.Y Students have participated in the    THRED project   (Trust for Human Resource Enrichment & Development. Each youth volunteer was requested to ‘befriend’ 4 senior citizens from their locality, family, old age homes as per their convenience.  Students  had to communicate and interact with their adopted senior citizens (individually) for 2 hours on two days in a week over a period of at least 8-10 weeks. The time they spent with their senior friends  enabled them to build friendship, companionship and solidarity.  A quantitative and qualitative analysis of their interaction has been compiled.  

  • STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS

    Ms Niddhi Ahuja (TY ND) and Ms Rachita Shetty (FY B.Sc) and Ms. Niddhi Jaiswal (TYBCA) & Ms. Rosbeen Menon (SYBCA) received special appreciation certificates at All India Essay Writing Event 2015 organized by Shri Ram Chandra Mission (SRCM) in collaboration with UNIC for India & Bhutan

    The following students were awarded prizes in Annual Inter Collegiate Essay Writing competition in English organized by Ramakrishan Mission, Mumbai:    Ms. Ameena Panvelwala (FYBSc. – Second Prize) and Ms. Aditi M. Redis (FYBSc. – Third Prize)

    Ms. Prakashini Gopi won 3rd prize in the intercollegiate essay writing competition organized by Mani Bhavan Gandhi Sangharlaya on 17th February, 2016

    •  Invited to speak at Plenary Session titled   “Mapping Migration Studies.   An overview of  emerging trends in  the context of the Indian Diaspora”  at the International Conference  on “New Trends in Humanities, Gender and Cultural Studies”  organized by the Dept. of English, N.G Acharya and DK Marathe College, on 10th October 2015,
    • Valedictory Address  at International Conference on “Comparative Perspectives in   Classical  Literature” organized by the English Department of the Lady Doak College, Madurai,’ on 17th December 2016.
    • Nominated as representative of SNDT Women’s University to attend First Global Alliance on Media and Gender organized by UNESCO at the Palais des Nations, Geneva on 9th and 10th December 2015.
    • Invited to  present paper on  “Forgetting and Remembering: The notion of Home in narratives of the East African Asian Diaspora’ at an  International Seminar on Migrations, Heimat, Homelands. Organised by Centre for Regional Studies, Centre for Women Studies, Department of Sociology in collaboration with the Goethe Zentrum, Hyderabad. Funded by ICCSR, 11th and 12th February 2016.

    •   invited to give the   Plenary session on ‘East African Asian Diaspora. Research Entry points’   at a  ‘Symposium on  “Research directions in  Indian diaspora studies”   organized by  the  Western Regional Centre,  Indian council of Social Science Research ( ICSSR), Vidyanagari Mumbai on   6th August 2015.

    Ms. Padmaja Biwalkar presented a paper on ‘Changing Relationship in Family’ in National Conference on ‘Dynamics of Family Relationships in contemporary World’ at P.N.Doshi College ,Ghatkopar, Mumbai

    Ms. Padmaja Biwalkar presented a poster   at an International conference on ‘Sustainability.      Challenges &  Opportunities”   at Vikas College ,Vikroli, Mumbai on 20th Feb. 2016

    Mrs. Amruta Sapre presented a poster on ‘Estimation of Polyphenols in Frenchbean Seeds’ in an International Conference on ‘Community Nutrition and Health’ organized by ‘Nutrition Society of India’ at IIT Bombey,Powai,Mumbai on 8th December 2015.

    Ms. Padmaja Biwalkar and Mrs. Amruta Sapre presented a poster on ‘imparting lifeskills through curricular and extra-curricular activities in Science’ and won 3rd prize in a NAAC sponsored National Seminar on ‘Best Strategies in Teaching, Learning and Evaluation’ organized by Dr.BMN College of Home Science, Matunga, Mumbai on 3rd March 2016.
