    K.U. Naram Awards:

    • Anaemia Detection Camp
    • Conducted by SMES College of Nursing and Dept. of Food Science and Nutrition in collaboration with Inner Wheel Club, Bombay Downtown
    • An Anemia Detection Camp was organized by the Seva Mandal Education  Society’s College of Nursing and the Department of Food Science & Nutrition, in collaboration with Inner Wheel Club of Bombay Downtown and The Lion’s club of Sion from 27th Jan to 30th Jan 2015. 935 students from various sections   on campus, and 56 staff  were tested to assess their   hemoglobin levels. The test  reports   were issued by the Dept. of Computer  Applications. The students of the Dept. of Food Science & Nutrition distributed pamphlets containing recipes of iron rich foods to all students who were tested. 


    August 26th Nutrition Week Event Organized At Dr. BMN College Of Home Science, Matunga:


    Mr. Harpal Singh was the chief guest and he encouraged students to listen to their heart and choose a career path in what they are passionate about. Other speakers, Mr. Sachin Lele, Dr Uday Annapure HOD ICT , Mr, Prabodh Halde, President AFST Mumbai ,Mr. Nilesh Lele Secretary AFST Mumbai ,Dr. Ratnakar Ahire motivator trainer, Mr. Sanjeev Sharma & Ms. Tirtha Gala also guided the students on various options after graduation. The event was attended by 200+ students and also included label making, recipes for cancer patients and other competition. On this occasion AFST Mumbai chapter’s Newsletter was inaugurated. M/s Marico sponsored this program.

  • EXHIBITION REPORT

    The Department Of Food Science And Nutrition Decided To Take Up The Theme Of Environment In Terms Of Food Safety, Food Security And Effect Of Climate Change On Health. These Broad Areas Were Specifically Chosen To Blend Well With the Central Theme Of “Environment For A Better Tomorrow”

    The Broad Themes Were Converted Into Messages For The General Public And Therefore Each Corner Of Space Allotted To The Department Was Depicting Through Charts And Models The Message Of Sustaining Food For Tomorrow.

    The Food Safety Corner Space Had Various Aspects Of How To Keep Food Safe From Farm To Plate And Gave Tips For Each Stage Of Food Processing. (Clean, Separate, Chill Cook). This Space Also Gave Inputs On How To Manage And Keep A Healthy Diet When Travelling.

    Climate Change And Health Related Disorders Focused On Various Aspects Of Climate Change And Various Disorders And Diseases That Are Common Because Of This Phenomenon. It Showed The Various Zones Of The Country With Hot, Cold And Humid Temperatures And Highlighted Role Of Diet In Conditions Like Malaria, Asthma Along With Household Tips.

    Food Security Especially Was Made With An Intention Of Explaining To The Laymen The Importance Of Preventing Food Wastage And Reducing Loss And Improving Yield.

    An Interesting Part Of The Exhibits Was Also Demonstration Of Various Recipes Using Peels Of Fruits And Vegetables. Recipe Pamphlet Was Prepared And Also Recipes Were On Display. This Space Was Used Under A Sub Tittle Of Edible Peels.

    The Department Also Had Invited Mumbai Grahak Sangh To Put Up A Display On Food Adulteration And Explain How Adulteration In Food Could Be Easily Tested At Home.

    Innovative Nutritional Games Were On A Central Table Inviting Children To Play And Learn Aspects Of Good Nutrition.

    Nutrition for menopausal women- community nutrition experience

    Students of T.Y (N.D) Conducted a Workshop on Nutrition for menopausal women  for Ladies between age 40-50 yrs. The Workshop was conducted on 17th March 2016 in Naval community. Around 50 women attended the workshop. They gave a short presentation which included detail about the menopausal stage right from what is menopause? to foods which should be included during this stage as well as it focused on Foods rich in Phytoestrogen and why are phytoestrogens important during menopause.

    The women found the workshop very innovative and very helpful. Students had prepared 10 Nutritious and Delicious recipe which they found really very healthy as well as tasty. The workshop and recipes were well appreciated.

    The students also prepared a brochure for the same.
